Poorly written, confusing, boring. Dune was a masterpiece, and this prequal is not worth the paper it is printed on. ONe of the worst books I have ever read.

I've heard about the Dune books for years and decided to give them a try by starting in chronological order with the prequels. Negative critics of this book must simply want to be loyal to James Herbert's original series, because I found this first book (The Butlerian Jihad) in the Legends Of Dune trilogy to be absolutely incredible. I loved the characters, the action, the twists, the constant energy, and the rapid pace of chapters. In short, I was blown away and will definitely be reading the rest of the series now. As for people saying it was confusing, I completely disagree. Unless you have a 2nd grade reading level, this writing is as clear-cut as you can get. Highly recommended for fans of sci-fi, adventure, and epic storytelling.
