This is in part a story of the conflict between Nimitz and MacArthur. It is well written in a style that is clear and simple. The well-documented account of his childhood and boyhood really explains Nimitz, the man. His virtues of ruggedness, patient endurance, self-reliance, resourcefulness and decency were all passed on the the rearing of the child as also was the old grandfather infusion of salt water into the boy's blood. This is the story of a great American.
