Based on the 12 animal signs of the Chinese Zodiac, but like western Astrologers, they try to make it more complicated to handle irregularities. Not only do they further divide each of the 12 signs by the 5 material symbols (earth, fire, water, metal wood), you have an inner sign and a secret sign, as well. So not only am I a dog, but an earth dog on the outside and a snake on the inside, and as for my secret sign, if I told you, it wouldn't be a secret, now would it?
