I listened to the unabridged version on 7 CDs.
I thought it was okay but not as "cheerful" as I would have hoped. As each of the 12 friends of Marnie hand out the cookies they have made to be shared, the story of their lives is presented. There are many single mothers in the group and so we are presented with the story of their struggles and triumphs: a death of a son, the many divorces, the stories of infidelity.
On the positive side, there is a very strong bond between the women and they are very supportive of one another. I guess this is why it is a popular book.
I did find her cookie receipes interesting, along with the discussion of some herbs.
