I am a Mom of a 12 year old. I read this book-curious to see if cliques have changed since I was in school...um...let's say, "25ish" years ago, OK? :o)

I didn't expect much from this book. On the negative side, it was a bit what I call "usual", perhaps formulaic is the correct term-new girl in town...Queen Bee of the Clique doesn't like her so none of her "drones" do either. They are mean to her. The new girl is hurt, revenge is imminent. Revenge is performed. No one likes the "Queen Bee" anymore. Then the "Queen Bee" and her "drones" find out what the new girl did, so she's OUT again. But through a shared experience, the "Queen Bee" and new girl are thrown together and have time to talk a bit about this experience, find out they have much in common, and they become...TAHDAH...FRIENDS!

Right?

But...that didn't quite happen that way in this book, which I liked. IMO the ending was VERY realistic. It was a somewhat happy ending, but still a bit inconclusive, which sometimes happens with new girls/cliques in real life. Perhaps the author ended it this way because she was planning sequels, but even if she hadn't written more, I would have been happy with how this book ended.

This was a quick read for a booknut Mom. I ended up enjoying it and would have no hesitation letting my 12 year old read this. The characters are the same age as her, there is only 1 bad word spoken/texted in one scene (the b.... word), and it's a story line many young teens can relate to.
