- I was really looking forward to this based on some of the author's older works: The Fall, The Marriage Bed, A Kiss to Die For...all 4-5* reads. This one sadly was not.

- Two minutes of thought about the title and you can pretty much guess what you'll read. I absolutely hated the first part of the book. Caroline, Sophie's daughter, raised in the lap of luxury, decides her goal in life is to become a courtesan like her mother Sophie was. However, Carolyn just comes across as very spoiled and stupid in my opinion. I mean come on! Who dreams of becoming a - ugh hum...courtesan?

- However, things do pick up and get somewhat better, but overall this was a big disappointment for me. Carolyn's and Ashdon's relationship felt like lust from start to finish. Though at the end we're supposed to believe that they both are in love.

- As a side note, I really don't like this new 'soft cover.' Price is higher than a paperback but not quite what you'd pay for a hardcover. It's awkward to hold and read and forget it if you think you can recover some of your $. They don't hold their value like a hardcover. I'm sticking with paperbacks. Enjoy! =)

This is the first book by this author that I've read and I have to say I didn't care for it. I didn't like the manipulative mother nor the too young daughter. The relationship between Ash and Caro (daughter) wasn't believable to me and by the time the uncle and cousins came onto the scene (three-fourths into the book) I couldn't stand it anymore and thought, "why on earth am I reading this?" and didn't finish it. This is one book I am very happy to pass on to the next reader. I'm sure Ms. Dain has an appreciative audience; it just doesn't include me.

I did not like this book. I could not get passed the third chapter. The book sounded like it should be of Sophia rather than it did of the daughter Caroline. Caroline sounded so dumb, like I said Sophia was a lot more interesting. Maybe the author should have started with a book about Sophia and how she became a coutesan, unless there is one and I did not read it first which I probably should have.

I like the main characters and also the peripheral characters in this story, although the heroine is kind of a PITA. However the story is fun and playful and a bit of out loud laughing. It is not a Lisa Kleypas book by any stretch and the love scenes are skimpy if you enjoy those things. But this was my first Claudia Dain book and I've since read others, so it was good enough to keep me reading!
