One of the best depictions of life in 19th century England I've ever read, and a great story as well. Like Dickens, only with sex!

A gripping story of Sugar and her rise through Society. Characters with flaws who are more real than many in historical dramas. Too much despair and realism to be a romantic story, but more a deeply human story than a dry history. A large book, but you won't want to put it down. Expect household chores to mount up while you read, and read, and read!

This was a bestseller in Europe. A great fiction story following a very interesting protagonist-a prostitute in the early 19th century. Even though it is an 800 page book, I read it in 2 days!
