This book is a little different from Feehan's other Carpathian stories. Dayan, of the music group the Dark Troubadours featured in another Feehan book, spots his lifemate, Corinne, one night when he's playing solo at a club. Dayan's brother (Dark Fire) Darius is one of the most dominant, overpowering Carpathians. Yet Dayan is one of the least dominant Carpathians I've read so far. He woos Corinne gently and takes his time revealing his vampiric abilities to her. She pretty much accepts him as he is unlike many of the other heroines in the other books. That may be due to Corinne's character which has been forged through a hard childhood as well as through her heart disease which is terminal. Her husband also died not long before the story opens and she's pregnant with his child.

Corinne's doctors fear for her health if she doesn't abort her baby but she is adamant that her baby should live. In the midst of this, Dayan enters her life. He cannot accept the fact that Corinne has a good chance of dying when she gives birth. She also knows her lifespan is to be short anyway, with or without giving birth. Dayan gathers the Carpathian community together to try to save Corinne's life. It could go either way, for her and the baby. I really got to see, again, the love and unity this Carpathian community has for each other. And though the men may appear too macho they are easily turned to mush towards their lifemates. Unless their lifemates are in danger which in most cases I could see the mens' point. That's why I love this series the most of all the paranormal romance series - because of the individual and community love. Of course, most of the plots are pretty steamy though "Dark Melody" is less so than the others. Needless to say, this is a recommended read.

This was the story of Dayan and Corrinne. This was one of my favorites. Dayan comes to find out his lifemate has a heart condition that threatens her life, and she is pregnant, which further complicates her health. I love how the Carpathian community comes together to save her and her child. I loved reading about the characters from previous books, but most of all, I loved the way Dayan loved her and the way she simply accepted him and what he was. A true love story in my opinion.

IDK why I lost interest in the series part way into this book, it could just be that it's such a long series (although I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for other books with series just as long; Anita Blake, Immortals After Dark). Perhaps it was the newest female being pregnant by another man... and all the outrageous biology Cr@p (& yes I know it fiction). or that I've just reached my limit of basically the same story and descriptive words over and over and over and over again... see what I mean. but this book is as far as I will be going with the Carpathians, loved one through five, I guess it's just the law to depreciating returns.

Loved this story! I admit I did cry in some of the scenes. I enjoyed the story of Corinne and Dayan, especially since Corinne had a life threatening heart condition and she was pregnant by her deceased husband. There were twists and turns in the plot which evoked in me feelings of pathos.

I have to space these out because they sort of get repetitive but as long as I do that I do enjoy them. They're light and fluffy for the most part.
