From the back cover: "The year is 1899. At the dawn of a new century, Dr. Andrew Quimby is a lonely soul mired in the bleakness of his surroundings. A physician in London's infamous East End, he has witnessed much pain and suffering-the sort of misery that ages a man from the inside out.
Then begins a rash of murders in which the victims are drained of their blood by a killer whom some suspect is not human. Andrew doesn't believe it, nor does the object of his affection, La Contessa de Rospo. But the Contessa's expertise in such matters belies a secret that will place herself and her lover in grave danger...
Something is stalking the fog-veiled, damp streets of London...something merciless...something whose blood lust know no bounds..."

My personal opinion on the book: was a slow start through the first half. Very dark, depressing. Second half of the book took off and moved along and made the book worth reading. Not your typical "vampire" read; more a historically based mystery.
