Squeal.  Been thinking about going out for it.  Then the nice library gave me Turncoat.

Lalalala.....Ack!

I'm pretending it's not out yet, and this doesn't help.  I'm starting clinics and I am not allowed to get this now.  If it were a paperback I'd never resist, but I'm going to have to wait out this one and Lover Avenged.  I know I'm going to cave for Carpe Corpus in June and Branded by Fire in July though since I'm so far down on those WLs and they're paperbacks.  Even if I have no time for reading, I'll skip a little sleep :)

i'm #7 on the library waitlist, and earlier this week it looked like they ordered a bunch of copies.  now it's in acquisitions - so it's here!  i don't know yet if they cut back on the number of copies due to budget issues.

My library only got one copy but I'm #3 on the list so maybe it won't be too long.  I only had to wait a week for Turn Coat.

I will say, it's a pretty quick read, so maybe the library wait lists will move fast.  My lips are sealing, though, so I don't ruin it for anyone.  :-)

I requested it from my library a couple of weeks ago and got notification that my copy was waiting for me. Picked it up yesterday afternoon and read it last night. It is a quick read. And I enjoyed every word.

Okay, you made me curious and I'd bet some others on the planet like me haven't discovered this one yet. So is this the one you are discussing?

Dead and Gone (Southern Vampire, Bk 9)
Author: Charlaine Harris
ISBN-13: 9780441017157 - ISBN-10: 0441017150

Rating: 30

Book Type: Hardcover
Publication Date: 2009

For Sookie Stackhouse, the day-to-day activities of the vampire and Were communities in and around Bon Temps, Louisiana, are of vital interest. She's blood bound to the leader of the vamps, is a friend to the local Were pack, works for a man who is a shifter, and has a brother who is a werepanther...

But for most of the humans in Bon Temps, the vamps are mysterious, seductive creatures -- and they don't even know about the Weres.

Until now. The Weres and shifters have finally decided to follow the lead of the undead and reveal their existence to the ordinary world.

At first it seems to go well. Then the mutilated body of a werepanther is found in the parking lot of the bar where Sookie works. The victim is someone she knows, so she feels compelled to discover who -- human or otherwise -- did the deed.

But what she doesn't realize is that there is a much greater danger than the killer threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings -- older, more powerful, and far more secretive than vampires or werewolves is preparing for war. And Sookie will find herself an all-too-human pawn in their battle...

What is this series like? I'm not crazy about the ones where everything is a wise crack or one liner.

I read the first book and half of the 2nd book in this series, but just couldn't finish it.  It had some interesting ideas and plots, but maybe it was the writing style?  I don't know, but I just couldn't read it.

Yes Jo, that's the one.  I love this series - and I've been enjoying the HBO adaptation, although I like the books much better.  I'm with you, I'm not all that crazy about the one-liner style of writing, and I wasn't a big fan of the Queen Betsy books for a similar reason.  My favorite book in the series is Club Dead, which is the third one, and I liked the books that follow that a lot.  I don't really know how to describe what they are like - they are sort of a cross between a cozy mystery and an urban fantasy book (with a bit of romance thrown in).  I like the development of the main character, and I like following her as she learns more about the amazing world around her.  It's definitely a light read, but I have been a big fan of Charlaine Harris and I like her other books as well (especially the Harper Connelly books, the 4th is coming out at the end of the year - Grave Sight, Grave Surprise, Ice Cold Grave).  All that said, much as I love this series, this book was not my favorite of the bunch.  I think she's contracted to write one more.

Have loved this series since I stumbled upon the first one when they were shelving it at a Waldenbooks the weekend it came out.  Am over half way thru DEAD AND GONE and will finish it tonight.  My favorite in the series is DEAD TO THE WORLD, which is logical since Eric is my favorite character.  Loved True Blood and have it on order on DVD from Amazon (got it with a birthday gift card!).  Do you guys do discussion boards where spoilers are allowed for those who've read it.  I see someone else here mentioned CARPE CORPUS.  Am a big fan of the Morganville Vampires, too.

Post man just dropped off my copy from Amazon today. I knew I would not be able to wait for this one so I went ahead and preordered it.

Good thing I am taking tomorrow off from work...I doubt I will be sleeping until this one is finished :)

I see someone else here mentioned CARPE CORPUS.

Yes that was me :).  I'm anxiously awaiting it.  Last month I read the whole series in about 3 days and then I read it again.  I'm going to be on ICU when this book comes out, but I know I'm getting it anyway.  Who needs sleep?

As for spoilers, as long as you put in the thread title that the post contains spoilers you can discuss whatever you want .

Dead to the World was one of my favorites as well. It was the first one I read, because I picked it up in the airport.  After that I went back and caught up with the rest. I love Eric in the books, but no so much in the show.  On the show, I like Sam.

987 wishers!  wow.  This is one of the series I want to get back to reading ASAP! I just got #8! I've only read the first 2 so far. I like the series, though not as much as the Mercy Thompson series :)

ETA I just added it to my WL (I like to watch and see how fast the number goes down) and I am #1032 of 1033! That's a lot of wishers LOL

Just finished the book AND the audio download from Audible!  Is there a tenth one coming out?  I see Amazon has "A Touch of Dead:  The Complete Stories", coming out on October 6th, but it doesn't have #10 by it.  However it only weighs a  pound, which is @ the weight of a "normal" hardback.   Please let there be another one sooner than 2010!!!!

The October book is all the short stories in the Sookie world.  And November is the next book in the Grave series.

Finished the book and you can put me in the dissapointed camp. Sigh. I thought the series should have stopped with the last book. Not enough plot for me in this one. Felt dragged out and pretty pointless.

I do always enjoy coming back to Sookie's character. She seems so down to earth, definately some one you would want to hang out with.

I realize this series is a HUGE money maker. But enough already. Harris is a good writer (I love her other mystery series) let her get back to them...

Man was I shocked/excited when I pulled this book out of my Mothers Day gift bag!!  My Dh knows I watched True Blood because I had read the books but I never expected he'd buy me the newest one:) "sigh"-no wonder I'm in love-hahaha.

I picked this up from the library this afternoon.  I'm reading Janet Evanovich's Plum Spooky right now and this is next!
