Latest installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series. Sookie gets involved in the latest political shake-ups in both the Vampire and Were communities. In the meantime, Sookie has a witch roommate to deal with and her newlywed brother to look after. Quinn isn't as attentive as she had hoped he'd be, and both Eric and Bill make sure Sookie knows that they are interested in her. The best part is that Sookie learns of two completely different relatives that she didn't even know she had. Good book.

This book was predictable but such fun! I am a huge fan of the series and have devoured each one since falling in love with the HBO series True Blood. I can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. If you are a fan of Sookie Stackhouse or True Blood you will enjoy this one!

Loved the revelation at the end! Yet another fun Sookie Stackhouse book. Many ratings have rated certain books of better quality than others in the series, but I think Harris's writing is consistent. She's weaving a complete story through several volumes, rather than stand-alone books. (Even though she insists that they could be read that way, I think it hurts the story.) My only quibble with this book is one I have with all the others: The first few pages of each book are too much backstory, and not enough new story. I'm getting tired of being re-introduced to the characters for each book. Even still, I'm completely addicted to this series.

This is without a doubt one of the best Sookie books i've ever read. Don't get me wrong. I love all the action books where she's jumping from one world ending crisis to another. Those were and are great. But this one allows you to spend some time with Sookie. She's cranky at work. Her brother lets her down. And there are some really great action parts in it. It's just more of a 'get to know Sookie better' thing. I was thrilled to get to know the other part of her family. I can't wait for that to be expanded on. Really really great stuff.

I thought the plot for this one was all over the place. There was no big "climax" each scenerio got taken care of then they moved on to the next one. There was nothing that made me just have to stay up late and finish the last few chapters.

This is definitely one of the better books in the series. Even though the author must have been trying to fill pages with so many different plots in the story, it was written better than the previous books had been. I spent more time looking forward to what would happen next than rolling my eyes over ridiculous things the characters did. Sookie is definitely growing as a person and not quite as annoying as she used to be, but she still does things that she can't help since the author is obviously trying to drag her romantic life on for as long as possible.

Over, not a bad read at all.

I really like all of the books in this series and this one was no exception. What I enjoyed most about it was that we got to spend more time with Sookie and all of those -old and new - who are a part of her life. The last couple of books have had these mega-storylines where Sookie needs to save the world. This one had major action scenes but they weren't drawn out over the course of the book. I like getting to know the minor characters and seeing what the others are up to. Great book... great read!

I won't really describe the happenings in this book, because it felt like mostly filler. It was like Charlaine was just preparing us for upcoming books. I enjoyed this only because I love all of the characters, I love the town, and Sookie is a great lead. There were some problems resolved and new problems brought to the surface. These have obviously opened new doors for future books. Lets see, Alcide is finally head of the Were's. Sookie and Quinn solved their relationship dilemma. Sookie is introduced to one of her ancestors. Eric now remembers his past with Sookie. I was hoping more would come out of that last one, but I was left disappointed. The book ends kind of awkwardly, and I'm not really sure what she was trying to tell us or make us feel at the end. All I know is I felt kind of empty about the whole thing.

I have a feeling that the next book will much better. This book set up a lot of new storylines for the future. I can only hope this series keeps trucking along, because I'm in love with the lighthearted small town charm that it has.

I really plowed through this whole series rather hungrily. A result of my withdrawal from the True Blood tv show being off season. This book managed to be just as good as all the previous ones before it. Harris weaves new things into the stories and keeps things interesting. These are books where things are happening and the action moves along. A very recommended read.

This was the most disappointing book for me. It read like a 10 year old might write a plot-"this happened, and then this happened and then that happened and then something new happened..." It was all over the place with no climax. I am getting weary of Mrs. Harris adding so many new elements that seem to keep thinning the story-line.

I have read all of the books so far and if the premise weren't so intriguing I would probably stop reading. It's like reading a trashy romance except the writing style isn't as good... I know I must be a glutton for punishment and I will keep reading, but I am truly hoping the next book is more tight as a story.

I've never watched the HBO series, and I don't plan on it anytime soon. I've loved the book series so much, the TV show is guaranteed to disappoint me.

The 1st book made me fall for Sookie and her men, and after I finished it, I immediately ordered every other book in the series. I just finished Dead in the Family (Book 9, I believe?) and I can't wait until Charlaine publishes her next one. I hope they go on for at least several more. I'm so involved in these books that when I finish one, I don't read anything else for days so I can just think about the one I've finished.

And I'm very much Team Eric.

From Dead To Worse is the 8th book in the Sookie Stackhouse novels. After barely surviving the attack at the vampire convention Sookie returns to Bon Temps. Quinn her new lover and weretiger is missing. Bill wants her back and she has a great grandfather. Not just any great-grandfather, but a fairy and a prince. Oh and not to mention someone attempts to kill her.
From Dead to Worse engages us in great stories, it ties up some of the loose ends from the earlier books, and also introduces a couple of new characters. Charlaine Harris knows her way around the characters of this world so well the novels never get boring. From Dead to Worse sets the stage for what I hope will be many more books to come. The action in this novel is on a smaller scale than others, but after book 7 Sookie needs a rest. We cannot keep throwing this character into absurdly complicated situations. I thoroughly enjoy the mystery unfolding page after page, and learning new things about Sookie each step of the way. Sookie is a heroine with thoughts, flaws, and strength that makes her so real.

Much better than the new series on HBO, this entire book series ROCKS. However, I have to admit, Dead to the World is so far one of my favorites, this book ranks up there high enough that I read it twice and listened to the unabridged audio book 3 times through. For me, that's unheard of.

Book number 8 in the Sookie Stackhouse series gives us a peak into Sookie's gene pool, a pool that many super naturals want to dive into. If you have been following the series along, some of the issues from previous books are resolved, and some new and interesting issues arise, along with your usual vampires, werewolves, witches, and, well you get the picture. The tongue in cheek style of Ms. Harris keeps me coming back for more each time, and she is not disappointing in this book. An entertaining read for fans of this series.

This book felt very different than the previous Sookie Stackhouse books. It felt like it was much longer, and almost felt like an ending. Harris strayed from her usual format in this book, there wasn't much of a mystery to solve, but a LOT happened which was important to the plot of the series. It was very good, and one of my favorites so far (although "Dead to the World" is still reigning champion of my favorites list). It was just a surprise to see how differently the plot flowed! It was refreshing, and a lot of fun. It also felt longer, probably because there was a lot of meat to the story. I really love how Sookie's developed throughout the series, and how she deals with the events around her. I can't wait to read the next one!

Let me first say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. That said, I found it a bit disjointed, with less continuity and flow than previous volumes in the series, kind of like a "Series of Unfortunate Supernatural Events and Revelations". Sookie also seems a bit more tired and jaded, understandably so. It also feels like the author is not sure what direction she wants to take Sookie's love life, but I've enjoyed every turn it's taken so far (I just hope she doesn't venture into Sam territory). I do feel a bit sorry for Quinn here, as abruptly as he was dumped, but I can understand why she had to do it (any woman with a monster MIL would understand). But what was the real zinger for me that got me terribly excited for the next volume was the end, with Sookie's discovery of her cousin Hadley's child. I'm eager to see where she takes that story arc!

Sookie is quite busy in this one with the Were's going to war amoung themselves, the vampires clashing amoung themselves, the witches and Sam getting pulled in as well, and of course family issues too. I really liked were this booked ended and the direction the storyline is now heading.

Well, I REALLY liked this one! It was VERY exciting - all the more so because of the interesting developments with Sookie and her family. I really loved this series - it is just so much fun and exciting! I really do hope that there is even more of Eric in the next book... Although I do still really like Sam, too.... Still, I thought I could wait until the next one came out in paperback, but now, especially after reading the sneak peek in the back of the book, well, I am tempted to go ahead and buy it on the Kindle.... it is just a terrible invention for the impatient like me to own!

I keep reading these books because I can now put a face to the characters because of the tv show. With that said, Sookie still remains the same person. The weres involve her of their politics and of course so does the Vamp community. She always seem to be in the middle of these fights. I did not like the Quinn character and I'm happy with the way this relationship turned out in this book. I'm a team "Eric" girl and I love that he's still very involved in these stories. I am glad that she did meet a member of her family and and important one at that. I also like the friendship she has with Octavia and Amelia her witch friends. I like Jason but after what he does in this book left me with a bad feeling about him. Overall great read.

Sookie Stackhouse is back home after surviving the explosion at the vampire summit, wishing things would get back to normal. But that isn't about to happen. Her weretiger boyfriend, Quinn, is missing. The Louisiana Vampires are going through a hostile takeover. And, Sookie is stuck in the middle of were politics, trying to keep the peace. She is also introduced to her great-great grandfather, who turns out to be a Fae King.

Although I enjoyed the 8th book in the series, it felt like a bunch of short stories that were held together by Sookie's character. The story about the weres and their problems ended, just in time to start the story of the Nevada Vampires taking over in Louisiana. Even though it was entertaining, my biggest problem was the lack of mystery. At least she brought back many characters from the past and included them in the stories. Overall, it was a very entertaining read. My rating: 4 Stars.

I have been dragging my feet with this series, but I have to say that this book has made it all worth it. Somehow things just feel like they are finally falling into place. I accidentally used this book to prop up the other Sookie books, and instead of reading #1, I read #8 first. Now I know what's going to happen in 1-7. Great. But, I loved it and had no trouble following it. The interplay of different "monsters" is fun and interesting. I still plan to read 1-7. I have started watching "True Blood," which is OK, but miscast IMHO. I had someone like Juliette Lewis or Winona Ryder in mind - more quirky.

Yet again another good Sookie Stackhouse novel!

I am completely stuck on this series! This was another good book; however, I must say I was disappointed in the ending on this one.

However, I continue to anxiously await the following book to the series every time I finish one of her books.

If you haven't read this series, give it a try. If you can read it and honestly say you hated it then don't pick up the rest of the series; however, I think you'll end up loving it if you will just give it a try.

Harris continues her character development and plot twists that keep the series interesting in this 8th installment that decidedly moves away from the paranormal romance genre to simply paranormal. This book shows the series is not about Sookie and her guy (whoever he may be), but is instead about Sookie and the supernatural community she is now a part of. Sookie is trying to figure out if she's a good or bad person, and the reader is trying to decide that not just about Sookie, but about the supernatural world in general. It's a wonderful turn to take, particularly in a series that is this long. Of course, the Jason/Hotshot storyline is still cringe-worthy. I have no idea what Harris was thinking when she went that direction. Also, we get to meet yet another northern woman who is naturally a bitch. That prejudice is particularly annoying to a northern female fan. However, in spite of those things, this entry in the series is fresh and entertaining, and I'm excited to read the next one.

Check out my extended review.

I'm glad I didn't waste my money buying the hard cover of this series which is located in the romance section of book stores.
