The Death and Life of Bobby Z
Author: Don Winslow
When Tim Kearney draws a license plate across the throat of a Hell's Angel, he's pretty much a dead man. It's his third crime and, according to California law, that gives him "life without the possibility of parole."  Killing a Hell's Angel also makes him a dead man on any prison yard in California. Don Winslow is a terrific author. Got started with him years ago with California Fire & Life, discovered Bobby Z recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Winslow creates a "outsider" hero but gives him a personality that is unusual. In this book, Bobby Z is a contrast between a tough guy and someone who is full of self-doubt. The plot moves very, very quickly and the action is violent. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is that I wish it would have been longer, I would have loved to linger a bit more in the story and the brevity of Winslow's style didn't let me do that. A thoroughly good read!

A great story, well worth a read! Another page-turner by Mr. Winslow! Who doesn't love a chase book, with plenty of jeopardy, and a host of situations where you can't see the way out!

In the spirit of Elmore Leonard, Don Winslow writes incredible dialog, plots, and wonderful characters. Total suspense...total momentem. A great read...enjoyable to the very last page

I had difficult time getting into this book, but after 40 pages it took off. It starts off with Tim Kearney, a 3 time loser in prison for life and on the hit list of the Hells Angels, being offered a deal to get out of prison if he impersonates the Drug Lord and all around winner, Bobbie Z. The pace was hectic and the plot twists keep me turning the pages to find out what happens to Tim as he morphs into Bobbie Z and tries to escape the Hell's Angels, various law enforcement, and drug gangs that are pursuing him.

It's fast-paced & funny, some of it was over my head-probably 'cos I'm not a guy
