Although my 11 year old son LOVED the series, we were bummed to learn that it was just a republished Mars Diaries book 1 & 2 together with a different title. We thought it was a continuation of stories started in Mars DIaries.... bummer! But Mars Diaries, now called Robot Wars, was a very exciting series that my son really enjoyed! Just don't be fooled, they are the same stories...This is book One of the Robot Wars series.

Here is the back cover -

Life in an experimental community on Mars is filled with adventure, new discoveries, and questions. As 14-year-old Virtual-Reality Specialist, Tyce Sanders, searches for truth, he battles forces of evil - all while struggling to believe in God.

In Book one, the science station where Tyce, his mom, scientists, and other techies live is running out of oxygen. Tyce races against time an other forces to save himself and others. And as if that's not enought to battle, Tyce discovers evidence that points to other living creatures. Could dangerous aliens live on Mars?

Engaging book - hard to put down

While the Robot Wars title is groan worthy (really, you're going to be THAT obvious about trying to hook Star Wars fans??) this first book, Death Trap, is very good. The story is engaging and kept me turning the pages to see what happens next. The end of the book definitively made me want to go find the next in the series to keep reading. Well written, and scientifically informative - without being boring or getting bogged down. I thought how the author made it clear that science and faith in God were not mutually exclusive was really cool - conveying that to people is one of my passions, and this is an awesome way to do that. This book is not just for young adults - adults will find it interesting too!

Word of warning, though, this series is the Mars Diaries series by the same author, but repackaged, and some of the information has been updated to reflect modern times - so it's not entirely new. That being said, it is still a little different than the original. Kindof like reading one of the original Hardy Boy books and then reading the same story that had been updated to reflect modern detective methods: It's worth reading the old and the new books. Highly recommended.

Tyce lives with his mother on Mars in the year 2039, where he gets to move a robot using virtual reality. He has to solve mysteries and learn about faith.

I thought this was a good story about an experimental colony on Mars. It is divided into two journals (which were previously published separately) and is an interesting look at possible life on Mars.
