As the author himself states, "This book is intended for the general reader, as well as those who have a keen interest in the Civil War." As such, I think he did a good job describing a relatively small battle which might have changed history if it had not occurred. Most books I've read on the Civil War mention this battle in a short paragraph or two, if that much.
The author does not use citations, but has a section in the back which lists the sources of quotes or other statements by page numbers. For those of us with a "keen interest" this creates some problems when we wonder if what the author writes can be backed by primary sources. As for everything you might question you have to look in the back to see if it is listed.
Still, I would recommend it as a good read. While the author does an excellent job covering the battle and its participants, he also spends time relating the actions of major players and events behind the scenes which helps the general reader understand why everything took place.
