Not awesome. Leave it to the scholars.

Hard to read...think olde-english meets run-on sentences and forced poetry. There's a reason only 4 other people on this site have read it and, likewise, have rated it 3/5 stars.

A Christian allegory. In the first of three parts, the poet is conducted through the twenty-four cirlces of Hell on the first stage of his arduous journey towards God.This edition includes commentary and glossary. This 1980 translation is done by Dorothy Sayers, author of English mysteries featuring Harriet Vane and Sir Peter Wimsey. Book is in good condition with a hint of yellowing along the page edges. I bought this book and its two companions when I lived in Italy twenty-three years ago.
