Aaron Allston takes Kenneth Robeson's (really Lester Dent, et al.) Doc Savage as archetype and reimagines him as an elf. And like a jazz improvisation some changes are made, but the flavor of the original remains.

It's fun to read and an escape from the modern style of fantasy offerings.
