I received my first RWAP book today.  Had to wait over two weeks to receive the damaged book.  There is water damage and tons of underlining!  I guess I'm slightly shocked that someone would send a book so blatantly out of PBS guidelines.

I just posted about such a situation.  You might want to read it.  What do you think?

Sara, have you written the sender yet explaining why you marked it a RWAP? You are well within your rights to ask for you credit back. You also don't have to send the book back if you don't want to, but I have usually offered to do so in an effort to keep the peace as much as possible. Good luck with that! We know how you feel.

Yes, I let the sender know.  Maybe she sent it without looking at it carefully.  The water damage was near the back of the book.  However, there was underlining throughout the entire book.  I don't want to start a battle.  I just want my credit back.  99% of the books I post are pretty much brand new, so it's a major bummer to receive one that isn't even within PBS guidelines.

This sort of worries me about the ability to post books for credit in a BB thread where the book is damaged.  It seems to me that we will see a lot of people getting confused about it and the RWAP's will increase.  Maybe it's just me.

Hopefully they won't get it confused.  I think in general it is good that "damaged" books can be posted for credit in the bazaar.  So often it is just one very small water mark or stain that makes an otherwise pristine book unpostable.  So the Bazaar is a good place for those willing to spend a credit on a book that they really want, but doesn't quite meet PBS posting guidelines.  Although I am somwhat concerned that Bazaar posters could misrepresent the amount of damage when describing it...

I hope you get your credit back.  I've had to mark 2 books RWAP in the time I've been here swapping here which has been almost a year and I always get the excuse that "it wasn't my fault and I'm not responsible" when clearly it was, the books were packaged perfectly but one the spine was completly torn from the book and had water damage and the 2nd just had water damage on the top of the pages of the entire book.

I'm happy to report that I received my credit back.  The book had been on her list for a while, and she didn't reexamine it before sending it to me.  We were both polite, and it was resolved.  I would definitely request another of her books in the future.
