Fantastic book; these stories are real. It's not only the civilian spouses that go through this sort of thing. It's the military spouses as well. My husband missed our daughter's first birthday while he was on combat cruise and I had to fight tooth and nail to take leave from my squadron so she wouldn't be alone on her birthday.

This is a must-read for any future spouse of a military member who thinks that the life of a military spouse is easy...it's not easy on either side of the equation, or either side of the world.

Get this book. It is filled with true life stories that are sometimes funny and sometimes make you just cry.

Wow, I am disappointed in this book. I am a military spouse of 23 years and all I can say is Alesia is a whiner. I cannot imagine sending emails like she sent to her husband while my husband was on a combat tour. Yes, I tell him what is going on good and bad, but not the way she did in this book. Having said that, I stayed through the whole book hoping she would grow up....too bad it didn't happen. She also doesn't even realize how good she has it with six month deployments......try the Army with 12 to 15 month deployments. I can't imagine how her emails would read in month 10!

Interesting insight on military deployment. My husband was deployed when I read this and I could relate to a lot of what the author was experiencing. The book made me laugh and cry...
