Summary: After a small-time criminals home is firebombed (killing the owner & his daughter dead, mistrust and uncertainty pervade the formerly well-managed streets as more drug dealers appear/emerge and competition grows. Then Iles' peace-through-accommodation strategy with drug barons Ember and Manse is nixed when a new, "enlightened" chief constable relaxes drug policy. With less heat, the big firms fearing extinction start a battle for survival and violence erupts (but who's behind it? Does a chauffeur aspire to be a kingpin? Is a policeman looking to restore the status quo?)

Review: I agree that this excellent addition to the series has superb intrigue and humor (with Booklist), that its dialogue sizzles (with Publ Weekly and makes for much of the fun) and the mix of savagery and sexuial betrayal make for a tart comedy of contemporary manners (with The Guardian).
