He takes the attitude that most westerners over the past 300 years who have visited China and who don't think like the author are dupes or delusional. I made it through 50 pages, he bases it on a few intellectuals he interviewed, the ones who are articulate enough to be the winners when democracy starts. Maybe he did talk to a wider cross section later in the book.
