Another variation on his dominant theme. Still rural Louisiana, but this time the protests of the late 1960s(?)The same prejudices of the past, this time more refined. The local ministeralso the leader of the protest movementis forced to relive his erring past. Faced with this, can he still make the hard decisions necessary to lead his community? Little does he realize that he will have to start all over again. Gaines, true to his style, gives his characters the same down-to-earth dialogue that almost makes the reader part of the action.
