I wanted to like "Heroes for Hire: Fear Itself". It had a lot of characters, some of which were favorites of mine back when I was a regular comics reader. The art was nice, both in terms of the characters and scenery of each drawing PLUS the way the panels drew you from one to the next.

I wanted to like it. But I couldn't. There were far too many holes for me to enjoy it. (Possible spoiler follow.) Spider-Man discovers himself trapped in an arena, entertaining assorted low-life in a fight against an enhanced Scorpion and some dinosaurs smuggled into New York City from the Savage Land.
Question: What were all these people planning on watching if Spider-Man hadn't blundered in? Was the Scorpion originally supposed to fight the dinosaurs? Was there another character in a holding cell who would have been thrown into the fire?
Question: What caused that kind of transformation to Ben Grimm? Why him? How long had he been rampaging before the heroes stumbled upon him?
Question: How did all of the heroes contacted by Misty Knight manage to just happen to have a telecommunications device? Had she done a pre-rercruitment in advance? Do all heroes carry such a device nowadays?
Question: ... ah, you get the point.

This would have been an enjoyable book if only it hadn't left me with so many questions!

RATING: 2 1/2 stars, rounded down to 2 stars.
