This is book #2 of Johnstone's Ashes series.

I was so engrossed in the reading of the first book, I ordered book 2 and 3 before finishing book one.

Book 2 continues with the struggle to make a new life for the survivors of the nuclear holocaust that wiped out most of the humanity and made a nuclear wasteland of much of what used to be the USA, (and the rest of the world as well).

Sadly, the author has a very good take on humanity....the good, the bad and the downright ugly evil. Once again the good people trying to re-start their lives in a very broken world.

Chronologically, the plotline pretty much picks up where
it left off. We still have the hero, we still have the ordinary people and we still have the downright evil ones.

The hero lost his first attempt in creating a new life for his small community after being decimated by a new government set in Virginia sends troops to wipe out the new community - reason? What little government is left continues to need to "keep control" of the people....subdue or kill. Nothing new under the sun.

Pulp fiction that can move the reader to become a more thoughtful person.

For me, it's off to # 3 and yes, I have already got # 4 and # 5 lined up waiting.
