RF Thompson uses vibrant language and thoughtful analysis to dissect and explore the intersections between Africa and the Americas in art and ideology. A pioneer of his time, his works have influenced African Diaspora studies, Art History, and African studies. Using creative imagery, sample photos and art pieces spanning 200 years, Farris Thompson is able to link the sacred with the profane in syncretic, hybrid ways: what he refers to as a creolization of multiple elements ignited by a tumultuous history and talented individuals who embody what has become the Black Atlantic Visual Tradition.
