In the first five or six weeks, students gain a comprehension vocabulary of 150 words through regular TPR training. Then, the teacher starts telling mini-stories with accompanying movement and/or hand signs. The students are then asked to retell the mini-story from memory. After this foundation is laid, the program moves into full-blown storytelling with students learning how to create and tell their own stories. Throughout the program, both vocabulary and grammatical competence gradually expand. Reading and writing activities are also significant segments that help students to move to a higher level of competence. The book includes a chapter that outlines how to adapt a standard textbook for use with this method.« less
