Not your run-of-the-mill Nero Wolfe. In fact, not Nero Wolfe at all. More of a love story, really. A group of buddies who hang out in a hotel lobby have taken it upon themselves to protect the honor of the lovely young telegraph girl. The "Nights Errant" as they call themselves know the man Lila falls for is a wrong 'un, but how far will they go to get rid of him?

Said to be Rex Stout's first novel, this is a tale of a group of men and the girl they adore and protect. Unfortunately, she hooks up with the wrong guy. Or does she? Coincidentally, one of her protectors and the "wrong guy" have a history.

Well, of course true love wins out in the end. The court room scene where she was called to testify wasn't a surprise to me. I had that figured out even before her "errant knights" did. Also at the end, the evil character gets his just deserts.

The books finishes with a very short story with an interesting ending.
