Do any of our postal people know if this is really happening, and if so, when?

A rare drop in postal prices will become effective Sunday, April 10, but no new stamps are planned to mark the change.

That’s the word from United States Postal Service spokesman Mark Saunders.

“We are not creating any stamps to support the price change,” Saunders told Linn’s March 14.

Instead, the Postal Service will continue to sell its current stocks of forever stamps at lower prices.

The effective day that letter prices drop to 47¢ from the current 49¢ was announced Feb. 25 by the Postal Service.

It will be only the third time that there has been “a general reduction in postage rates,” according to the Alliance of Nonprofit Mailers.

Thanks guys, I kept finding the articles that originally came out last July.

It sounds like the price will go down before the pet stamps come out, which is good, because I want to stock up on them!

I currently use the forever stamps when I am mailing books for PBS. Will I need to add an additional 2 cents per forever stamp to each package to make up for the decrease in value of the forever stamps?

Thanks!

Laura

after Apr 10 the stamps will be worth 47 cents each. get your pencill out to figure what is necessary. In the past the p o would allow a day or two after a change when the old prices would still work. I wouldn't count on it though. especially with media mail which mail people hate.

.47 X 5 = 2.35 + .37 = 2.72

the figures above are wrong since media mail is now 2.61 for a lb.

The last week in March none of the workers at my nearest PO knew what was going to happen with the rates.  Of course, I bought a new sheet of forever stamps!

going to have to look up if postcard rate changed too!
