Ingredients
  • 1 T - baking powder
  • 1 1/4 c - milk
  • 1 t - salt
  • 2 c - flour
  • - lard or oil
  • - iron skillet
Directions

Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Add milk, mix well. Working with floured or greased hands shape into oblong pones, more flour may be added to make dough firm. Fry in hot fat, enough to cover half the bread as it cooks,  turning once. Bread will be golden brown.

You can also add eggs to the mix to give it sustenance.  If you do this, add 2 eggs and reduce milk to 3/4 of a cup.

Notes

It says to fry in an iron skillet and that works fine but I was taught to make fry bread, oddly enough, in a wok and that works a lot better in my opinion.

There are a million different ways to eat and use fry bread. we've made it in stick shapes and rolled in parmesan cheese and herbs, in flat bread shapes, thicker and split like pitas ...
