This is a wonderful mail order bride story. Suzannah Hennessy has loved Aengus Yates since she was a small child but she feels double betrayed and heartbroken when he marries another, fathers 2 children, then disappears.
Suzannah's best friend Megan Braddock decide to take advantage of the services of Megan's uncle who is the owner of a mail order bride service. Megan is matched and Suzannah goes along as a chaperon. On the trip Megan falls in love with another man but feels guilt in doing so. She worries about the man she is suppose to marry and more importantly his motherless children.
Upon arrival at their destination Suzannah is horrified to discover that Megan's intended is non other than Aengus Yates. Soon Suzannah is plotting ways to allow Megan to marry the man she loves without feeling obligated to marry Aengus who Suzannah still loves even though she has trouble admitted this even to herself.
Mixed into all of this is Suzannah struggling to easy the pain of two small boys left motherless, who have felt betrayed and have no trust in their father. She understands their pain as it is so similar to her own.
The story is filled with lots of humor, banter and love between Aengus and Suzannah and is written so realistically that it is like watching a movie.
This is the first novel I have read by Kate Donovan but I will be reading more.

This Irish heartbreaker leaves her for someone else. Believing she'll never see him again, she travels with her best friend Megan to Bent Creek, a growing town in the Sierra Nevada mountains, to watch this woman unite with a successful mate in an arranged marriage. Another man waits for Megan in the background, knowing this relationship is doomed. Under a different name Aengus masquerades as Megan's betrothed. Of course, when he sees Suzannah again, it's her he wants, not Megan. Filled with light humor and touching romance, this is a novel of discovery and renewal as these young lovers find joy in each other... body and soul. Donovan is a skilled storyteller. Reading her work is like watching a good movie.
