This is such a beautiful, moving homage to Gandhi, by the wonderful Eknath Easwaran, who has contributed many illuminating works to the West about Eastern spiritual practices. His perspective captures the spiritual nature of Mohandas Gandhi's inner growth from a young insecure law student to defacto spiritual head of a nation-- "Mahatma," or "great soul." The spiritual seeker will enjoy the intimate details which are more revealing of Gandhi's inner motivations, and which might be missing from more secular accounts by Western biographers.

This is visually beautiful as well. The pages are of high-quality, slick paper, like an art book, as many the pages are covered with moving photographs of Gandhi at various moments in his life. This is a most excellent gift book to present to someone on an independent spiritual path, including yourself!
