Such a difference!  http://gayorbit.net/?p=7691

I went to a straight wedding in Canada a couple months ago and ran into a gay friend there.  He has a new partner he's very serious about — a young male nurse from Chicago who's getting ready to make the move north of the border.  I thought how lovely for them to be able to celebrate with straight friends with all the joy that knowing the same opportunity is open to them affords.

It was so sweet to be with them.  They were free to hold hands and kiss in the spirit of affection that weddings provoke.  And there wasn't a bit of self-consciousness, aggression or discomfort for anyone.

Why anyone wants anyone else's life to be any different I can't fathom...  Does the Right ever contemplate the amount of hatred and turmoil they invite into their own lives by needing to stamp out a little peace in someone else's?

Thanks for posting this Rainey.  Did you happen to read the comments after the article, especially the one from the 72 year old male?

Our friends who moved to Canada (one of them is Canadian) were in culture shock for awhile because being gay there is kind of a regular kind of way of being, unlike here where both of them were activist and very out & verbal.

I'm not sure the Right really cares actually.  To them it's a black/white issue & being gay is wrong, some will even go into a gray area & say that it's ok to be gay, but you know um, the whole sanctity of marriage yadda yadda.

Whenever we go to visit our friends, DP & I have to remind ourselves that it's ok to be gay there, it truly is a weird feeling.

It's been my experience that most of the Religious Righties are hypocrites anyway.

It always amazes me that the US is so lagging in this area. Even South Africa has legalized same sex marriage! Colleen

Mary-  Vancouver has always (at least in my memory) had a vibrant gay culture.  I can remember 20 years ago seeing guys out strolling in the evening holding hands in public.

OTOH, they also have the other sort of after hours trolling in the park and some very brutal murders as part of it.  Sad.  But I guess any large metropolitan center has that.  And I guess that touches on that other article I just linked about a new marriage and family centered gay culture that seems much better for everyone and for society in general.
