The story of Fiona and Ian takes the reader on a journey of hardship, types of family, and love. This is not a mushy love story. Fiona has lived a life without things most of us take for granted. She's holding on (sometimes by a thread) for something better. But she is not weak, and I loved that about this character. She pushes to make more of her life.
"How could such a slight lass hold such fierceness? Not cruel and not harsh, but fiery, like a filly who did not want to be bridled." This quote is Ian's perspective of Fiona's personality.
The love Fiona and Ian hold towards their animals is nicely done by the author, Jillian Hart. She does a great job of expressing the special bond between people and their pets.

Definitely 5 stars! One of the most beautiful love stories I've read in a long time. Fiona has lived a hard life, is independent, and has made definite plans for her future. Ian was not really interested in the arranged marriage but is drawn to Fiona's beauty and need for his protection. The chemistry between them and his sacrificial love makes you wish the story could go on and on.
First book in Jillian Hart's "Buttons & Bobbins" series. Second book is "Patchwork Bride," though not necessary to read them in that order. Both are worth the read as are most of Ms. Hart's books.
