I have several books, some wish-listed that can't be posted becaue of some water damage or loose binding.  If I want to offer  one free with an order, I have to do the postage at the PO, right?  No way to print it from home, I'm guessing unless I have a scale for weight (I don't!).  I have read about posting the wish list books in the BB and asking for a credit, but have not seen a thread for that subject.  Is there one?

And yes, unless you have a scale, you'll have to take the packages to the Post Office.  In fact, any time you print postage, or put stamps on your package at home, you should weigh your package, and enter the actual weight at the bottom of the Print Wrapper page.  In my own experience, the PBS weights are usually correct, sometimes a little bit off, and occasionally -- especially on listings imported from other databases -- way, way off.

This is true, due to Homeland Security regulations, but there is an exception for packages mailed with electronic postage, since "they" can trace the package to the sender if there's an issue.  So if you have a postage scale, and can print out your postage on your wrapper, you can drop the package in a blue box, even if it is over 13 ounces.

If you are using printed postage regularly, you should get a scale.  As someone else mentioned, PBS isn't always correct with the weight.  The packaging you use can also bump you into the next postage rate.  Most mmps can probably go First Class in the wrapper but a thicker one put in a thick bubble mailer will probably make it too heavy for 1st Class. 

I personally don't think any of us should use printable postage without a scale.  It is too often wrong.  PBS takes it's data from a wide range of places.  The book weights are not consistent.

I agree that getting a scale will make life much easier! 

And yes, if you use printed postage (or even just printed Delivery Confirmation), you don't need to take the package into the post office, regardless of the weight.
