The glory field follows a number of generations of a family whose ancestors were captured and brought to the Americas as slaves. Great book.

This is the story of one family. A family who saw its first ancestor captured, shackled, and brought to this country from Africa. A family that keeps to its roots -- and a piece of land that holds them together -- through the years.

More of a series of interconnected segments or short stories than an actual novel, it's a fascinating read. I think my favorite was Tommy, who (as do all the characters) makes a very hard choice.

A story told through several narrators about a life of slavery.
