Gone For Good
Author: Harlan Coben
Read by Dylan Baker — 5 CDs, 5 hrs. 15 min. — Harlan Coben earned the raves of critics everywhere for his New York Times bestselling thriller, Tell No One, hailed as “pulse-pounding” (People), “compelling and original” (Los Angeles Times), and “a thriller of runaway tension” (Iris ...  more »). Now, in a bold new novel, Coben continues to stake out new ground in suspense, unleashing a haunting tale of secrets and betrayal...and of one man’s search for his missing brother that spirals into a breakneck hunt for a killer, a victim, and the truth.

As a boy, Will Klein had a hero: his older brother, Ken. Then, on a warm suburban night in the Kleins’ affluent New Jersey neighborhood, a young woman--a girl Will had once loved--was found raped and murdered in her family’s basement.

The prime suspect: Ken Klein. With the evidence against him overwhelming, Ken simply vanished, spending the next decade as the elusive subject of rumors, speculation, and an international manhunt. When his shattered family never heard from Ken again, they were sure he was gone for good.

Now eleven years have passed. And Will, who always believed in his brother’s innocence, has found evidence that Ken is alive--even as he is struck by another act of betrayal. His girlfriend suddenly disappears, leaving behind compelling evidence that she was not the person Will thought she was. As two dark dramas unwind around him, Will is pulled into a violent mystery, haunted by signs that Ken is trying to contact him after all these years. Will can feel himself coming closer and closer to his brother . . . and to a terrible secret that someone will kill to keep buried. And as the lies begin to unravel, Will is uncovering startling truths about his lover, his brother, and even himself. He knows he must press his search all the way to the end. Because the most powerful revelations are yet to come....

Gone for Good is at once a powerhouse of suspense and a haunting tale of love--the love between brothers, between lovers, between family members. It is one of those rare thrillers that not only make the pulse pound, but stir the heart as well.

I just finished this book and I feel like I've gone on a hell of a roller coaster ride without even leaving home. WOW! This book was absolutely incredible! Every time I thought I had it figured out, Coben came up with another twist to make me question my theories or spin them into nothing but complete chaos. The man is absolutely genius when it comes to thinking up plot twists and turns to keeping the reader second-guessing.

If you like a book that will keep you guessing all the way to the very last page, then run - don't walk - to your nearest library or book store and get your hands on this book! If you want something a little more sedate and bland, then you may wish to just leave this book alone because once you start reading, you won't be able to stop -- just like when you strap in to a real roller coaster ride.

Good book!

The beginning of this story wasn't all that happy, but things really started to pick up around half way through. I don't want to say too much that wasn't mentioned in the synopsis and risk giving things away, but once passed the midway mark I just wanted to read the rest of the book through in one sitting!

I noticed some similarities between the main character in this book and the one in Tell No One (the only other Coben book I've read), and I wonder if that's common to most of Coben's books. There was also a very brief appearance in this story by a character from Tell No One, which was kind of fun. If you read them both, maybe you'll spot her too!

What a thriller! There are so many twists and turns in this clever story that you won't know the real murderer until the very last pages. Will Klein is a normal guy working to save the homeless in NYC. But he has a tragic past. A girl he loved when they were college students was raped and murdered. The prime suspect was Will's older brother, Ken, whom he worshiped. Ken's been missing for 11 years and now Will finds out he is still alive. In the meantime Will's current girlfriend goes missing. Will tries to connect all the dots but winds up more confused than ever. What a great read!

Good book but started off slow and not like his usual books. The ending is the best. Would never have guessed it.

OMG this is one convoluted story but fantastic none-the-less! This is just no way to figure out what is going on just too many twisty turns with shock after shock. A truly spectacular mystery with unbelievable suspense. I love Will and Sheila - what terrific characters. Even the bad-ass FBI dude and the assassin are great characters. WOW what an amazing book! I think Harlan Coben might be my new favorite suspense author. Can't wait to get another one and be amazed, surprised and delighted!

If you like your mysteries un-figure-out-able, then this one is for you. Shocking twists all the way until the last page.

This was the first book I've read by Harlan Coben and it was great. I didn't want to get out of the car because I was captivated by the story. The narrator was easy to listen to as well. I can't wait to listen to more by Coben. Enjoy!
