The first in a trilogy. Beautifully written period piece. A murder mystery, plus a coming of age story for young men in England immediately before the outbreak of WWI

The first book of Anne Perry's five novel series aout World War I. It is both suspenseful and poignant. A wonderful story and a great setup for World War I in England.

Very good first book in Anne Perry's WWI series. The murder plots drag on a bit too long, but the there is a wonderful background story of England building up to WW1. The two main characters, Matthew and Josesph interesting characters and looking forward to learning more about them in future books. Very good read.

the story isn't as exciting as her victorian london series. good story but i do prefer the monk series and charlotte & thomas pitt murder series. maybe i just enjoy the time frame farther back than the 1910-1920's
