Un-put-downable! Just enough medical jargon to make you feel like an insider. Enough suspense to make you want to read "just one more page."

Yep. Tess Gerritsen completely freaks you out with this book -- we've all heard about how money can buy you anything, and in this book, Tess Gerritsen stays with the medical theme, and uses her experience as a doctor to discuss the dark side of organ donation. Guaranteed to creep you out.

A young man in desperate need of a heart transplant gets one over the strenuous objections of a man who wants it for his desperately ill wife. And funny thing, she gets one after all. Where did it come from? First-rate mystery.

Back: Abby DiMatteo, immersed in her second year as a surgical resident at Boston's Bayside Hospital, is elated when the hospital's elite cardiac transplant team taps her as a potential recruit. But soon she must make a critical decision that jeopardizes her entire career. A car crash victim's healthy heart is ready to be harvested and is conveniently cross-matched to a wealthy patient, forty-six-year-old Nina Voss. Abby and chief resident Vivian Chao hatch a bold plan to make sure that the transplant goes instead to dying seventeen-year old boy. Then, after a new heart for Nina appears, Abby makes a terrible discovery -- Nina's heart has not come through the proper channels.

Defying the hospital's demands for silence, Abby, with Dr. Chao's help, plunges into an investigation that reveals an intricate -- and murderous -- chain of deceptions. Every move she makes spawns a vicious backlash... and, in a ship anchored in the stagnant waters of Boston Harbor, a final, grisly discovery lies waiting... Compelling and provocative, Harvest is a mesmerizing tale -- and one that introduces Tess Gerritsen as a new master of first-class suspense fiction.

Wow! This book has all of the things I look for in a medical mystery book; detailed medical procedures, suspense, intrigue and most of all - - gut-wrenching drama! Patterson said it best: "The best medical thriller I've read since coma."

This book is great, in a squeamish "it could actually happen to you" kind of sense. The prospect of being kidnapped and having my organs sold totally spooks me, this book was a thrilling page-turner the three times I've read it :)

I love Tess Gerritsen's books and this one is one of her best. Dr. Abby Matteo has been offered a choice position on an elite organ transplant team, but when she begins to suspect that some of the human organs are being obtained illegally, she becomes invloved in a life and death struggle; her life and her death!! This book will keep you up late and stay with you after you finish the last page.

I LOVED this book! Unlike Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles series, this one taps into her medical background to create a story about transplant surgery and some of the terrible things that can go wrong. Her main character, Abby, is a resident in the transplant unit. What a closed society! As you read along, you begin to see why. Gerritsen has done a great job of keeping the reader on the edge of her seat. I dare you to put it down for long!

I believe this was her first book. The writing was excellent. In my opinion, better than some of the R & I's books. Can't wait to read more of her earlier books!

FROM THE PUBLISHER:

For Dr. Abby DiMatteo, the road to Boston's Bayside Hospital began with a tragic accident - and the desperate, awful weeks that followed as she watched her little brother, Pete, lose his battle to live. Despite her small-town roots and lack of money, Abby pushed through college and medical school, each achievement strengthening her ambition to reach higher. Now, immersed in the grinding fatigue of her second year as a surgical resident, she's elated when the hospital' elite cardiac transplant team taps her as a potential recruit. But Abby soon makes an anguished, crucial decision that jeopardizes her entire career. A car crash victim's healthy heart is ready to be harvested; it is immediately cross-matched to a wealthy private patient, forty-six-year-old Nina Voss. Abby and chief resident Vivian Chao hatch a bold plan to make sure that the transplant goes instead to a dying seventeen-year-old boy who is also a perfect match. The repercussions are powerful and swift; Dr. Chao resigns, bowing under the combined fury of the hospital's top staff and Nina Voss's outraged husband. Abby is shaken but unrepentant - until she meets the frail, tormented Nina. Then a new heart for Nina Voss suddenly appears, her transplant is completed, and Abby makes a terrible discovery. The donor records have been falsified - Nina's heart has not come through the proper channels. Defying Bayside Hospital's demands for silence, Abby, with Vivian Chao's help, plunges into an investigation that reveals an intricate, and murderous, chain of deceptions.

The paperback front cover is torn a little at the top and the bottom right corner of the cover is missing. Until I found PaperBack Swap, I shopped at lots of second hand stores. It is still very readable. And certainly worth reading. I love Tess Gerritsen's fast pace in her books. LOVE the characters. The T.V. Show Rizzoli and Isles is based on her book characters.
