Another great chapter in the lives of Esen & Paul! Honestly, I just don't know how Czerneda keeps coming up with all these interesting, new characters and creatures. There is definitely one major SHOCK early on in this book. (Along with lots of not-so-much lesser shocks.) What I like about Czerneda's books (which includes this one) is that you really have to be paying attention to what you are reading. Her writing is NOT simplistic and breezy, yet it is still immensely entertaining. These books are meant for those of us who enjoy science fiction AND character-driven fiction. They are incredibly well-written and the settings are a perfect complement to the relationship stories.
