Douglas Adams is a genius. I am not a big sci-fi fan, I admit, but this book is pure genius. It's very accessible comedy sci-fi.
The movie came out and really didn't do it justice. The book must be read. It's so clever! The characters are hilarious and interesting. The plot is twisting and fun. I first read it when I was 15. I recently read it again, it holds up. Do yourself a favor. Read this book. You won't regret it.
