I rarely read a book where the bad guys are the best but I decided to try this and I'm glad I did. The main civilization was quite cruel and death a common and accepted way to rise in status.

Naturally our hero breaks the mold but not easily and it makes for a good story. The ending could have been more detailed but there is probably a sequel which I haven't looked up. If so, I'll read it.

Worth the time. Not great but a good read.

This is a story that I've read several times and is one of my favorite series. Drizzt, though a bit naive at times, makes for a wonderful hero in his struggle to overcome his upbringing in the city of Menzoberranzan.

Having recently gotten into fantasy fiction, several friends recommended R.A. Salvatore. I'm so glad they did! I was drawn into Drizzt's world and read the entire book in a day. Can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!

I had tried Demon Wars by Salvatore a few years ago and just couldn't get into it. I'm glad I gave Homeland a try. It wasn't the deepest fantasy ever, but it was interesting reading about the Drow society, and had a good mix of action and court intrigue. Drizzt is an interesting character and I'm definitely looking forward to the next two books of the Dark Elf Trilogy. If it keeps being as engaging and action-packed, I'll probably continue on with the rest of the 13 books that are now being marketed as the Legend of Drizzt.

As an advanced teen reader my daughter loved this book and says she just couldn't put it down. She says it had a lot of action that keeps your attention the whole way through and never gets boring. According to her it's a fantasy adventure book that is sure to please. She is definitely getting the next book, Exile!
