I have buddied up with another member. I had a book that is WL and I wanted to let my buddy have it. I told her to put it on her WL, which she did. Timing was a freak of nature here and someone happened to post that book right after she WL'd it and it got offered to her. She saw it was not from me so she caneled her request. Then we tried me posting the book hoping it would get offered to her as she must have been at the top of the WL. As soon as I posted it, it got offered to someone else who also happened to have it WL'd. We are a couple of newbies just trying to share books we both like. Can someone please tell me how we could have done this in a simpler way? In reading these forums it appears there is a way to post directly to another member, but how? Especially when it is a WL book.

You have to post while on her WL page.  Not from the book description page or the Post Books Page.  If you've done it right it should say you are posting this book to X member.  Also if your account is on hold-you have to unhold it first.  I learned this the hard way.  If you post a book to someone's WL while you are on vacation hold-when you unhold it puts it to the 1st person in line not the person you posted it to. 

When she cancelled the offer from the other person, it would have been removed from her WL. She would have to re-wish it, then you go to her WL and post it directly from there using the Post This Book button. Once you've hit that button, you should see the you are posting to member X  on the top right part on the screen.  You will have to wait until the person with the current offer accepts to cancel and get the book out of WL the WL cycle.
