I loved the first couple of books in this series but my attention has been waning on the last couple of ones. I feel like this one got back on track. I was never intrigued by Jamie but I liked her character here. We also see a side of Jeremy we haven't seen before; including a couple of very hot scenes.

I love this series and it manages to get stronger and flow better with each entry. Jaime Vegas, necromancer and celebrity spiritualist steps to center stage in this book with Eve, Savannah, Jeremy and Kris watching her back. The plot stumbles briefly here and there trying to keep all the characters involved through a few minor subplots that could have been left out but is overall nicely done and interesting with a satisfying ending. As always, there is important character development and series arc included in the book - new readers to the series should start at the beginning. Infrequent but intense sex scenes, ditto for strong language.

Once again, Kelley Armstrong has delivered a spicy romance/thriller that left me on the edge of my seat! I couldn't put it down, and when it was over, I wanted to immediately read it again. I'm so happy for Jeremy!

There were a few things that I thought went unexplained, like in the very end during the big confrontation between the group and Jaime, she knew some things that I couldn't figure out how she knew. Sure she was talking to Brendan and Murphy, but how did she know most of the stuff she knew? She can't read minds, and her knowledge would be limited to what Brendan and Murphy knew. So that was strange to me. Otherwise, a great story!

From other ISBN Hardcover:
Readers around the world have fallen for Kelley Armstrongs intoxicating, sensual and wicked tales of the paranormal, in which demons and witches, werewolves and vampires collide often hilariously, sometimes violently with everyday life. In Armstrongs first six novels, Elena, Paige and Eve have had their way with us. Now get ready for Jaime Vegas, the luscious, lovelorn and haunted necromancer. . .

Jaime, who knows a thing or two about showbiz, is on a television shoot in Los Angeles when weird things start to happen. As a woman whose special talent is raising the dead, her threshold for weirdness is pretty high: shes used to not only seeing dead people but hearing them speak to her in very emphatic terms. But for the first time in her life as invisible hands brush her skin, unintelligible fragments of words are whispered into her ears, and beings move just at the corner of her eyeshe knows what humans mean when they talk about being haunted.

She is determined to get to the bottom of these manifestations, but as she sets out to solve the mystery she has no idea how scary her investigation will get, or to what depths ordinary humans will sink in their attempts to gain supernatural powers. As she digs into the dark underside of Los Angeles, shell need as much Otherworld help as she can get in order to survive, calling on her personal angel, Eve, and Hope, the well-meaning chaos demon. Jeremy, the alpha werewolf, is also by her side offering protection. And, Jaime hopes, maybe a little more than that.

As I knelt on the cobblestones to begin the ritual, I opened not some ancient leather pouch, but a Gucci make-up bag. . . .

I know little about the geography and theology of the afterlife, but I do know that the worst spirits are kept secured, and my risk of accidentally tapping into a hell dimension is next to nil. Even if I do bring back some depraved killers spirit, what can it do to me? When you deprive someone of the ability to act in the living world, hes pretty darned helpless. In death, even the worst killer plummets from lethal to merely annoying.

Yet whatever had been trying to contact me apparently could cross that barrier, could act in the living world. . .at least on me. I added an extra helping of vervain to the censer.

Jaime Vega is a necromancer who can see ghosts and animate the dead. She's trying to get her own TV show, and this is her big break - a TV special as one of three paranormal experts trying to raise the ghost of Marilyn Monroe. While they are filming, however, other ghosts actually seem to be able to touch her, which is something unusual. When she realizes the ghosts are children unaware of their death and unable to cross over, she is determined to find out how they died and help them. What she discovers is a group of wannabe magic practitioners using human sacrifice to enhance their powers, which is not supposed to work. Or has someone stumbled on a way to make it work? Jaime enlists the help of old friends, Jeremy the alpha werewolf who makes her blood sizzle, the ghost of black magic practitioner Eve Levine, and half chaos demon Hope Adams, in her efforts to help the spirit children. Armstrong's supernatural world is quite original and fascinating, though Jaime is not as engaging a character to me as her others despite her interesting powers, hence the 3-star rating rather than a 4.
