From the Publisher
This extraordinary historical novel, set in Medieval Paris under the twin towers of its greatest structure and supreme symbol, the cathedral of Notre-Dame, is the haunting drama of Quasimodo, the hunchback; Esmeralda, the gypsy dancer; and Claude Frollo, the priest tortured by the specter of his own damnation. Shaped by a profound sense of tragic irony, it is a work that gives full play to Victor Hugo's brilliant historical imagination and his remarkable powers of description.

At the heart of the story is the sweet, beautiful gypsy girl, La Esmeralda, whose guileless charm draws Quasimodo, Frollo, and the brutish Captain Phoebus into a frightining chain of events that threatens to convulse the entire city of Paris...

Beautiful copy!

If you've seen the Disney movie prepare yourself for a tragic ending. There is no happy ending for this Hunchback, which was a little bit of a shock. If you're interested in classics, then this is definitely worth the read. There are some overdone descriptions, but the overall story is great and Hugo is able to pull the story together at the end so that all of the seemingly random characters make sense and you get this a ha! moment that makes the book worth reading.
