First RED FLAG--it is a Harlequin book

Rachel was blind for 20 yrs but now after a transplant she can see, she received eyes from the serial killer that tried to kill her and is the brother of the cop she loves--so how many times do you need to know that? apparently a lot as it is repeated over and over

Old storyline--girls go missing, Stevie was blinded by a drunk driver and had a 'coach' for learning to live with her blindness when she was abducted--how many times do you need to know that?--apparently a lot as it is repeated over and over

Enter the dog, Myrtle--I guess this is the 'fun' part? Not for me--don't need to know about doggie stuff that doesn't pertain to a story

Poorly written in my book, along with the above, I found the profanity to be out of place most of the time, it was almost as if she thought 'oh my I need to insert the f word here and there', the dialogue is corny and at times just plain irritating

I used to read Maggie Shayne lots of years ago and wanted to try her again but I guess I'm done with her books

Detective Mason Brown is asked to investigate a missing person case that hasn't officially been opened by the police. Judge Howard Mattheson says his daughter, Stephanie, who lost her sight in an accident six months ago, has disappeared. The judge believes she is hiding. The Chief of Police is asking Mason to look into the disappearance as a favor. Mason knows the best person to give insight into living with blindness is Rachel de Luca, the woman he is currently seeing. Formerly blind, Rachel can use her enhanced senses to tell if someone is lying to them. As Rachel and Mason unravel the clues, they find a string of troubled young women have disappeared over the last two years. Now they must discover the connection between Stephanie and the missing girls.

This is the third book in Maggie Shayne's Brown & de Luca series. This series is a perfect mix of humor, romance and mystery. The dialogue is sharp and the characters are fabulous. Rachel is smart and sassy, one of my favorite heroines. Mason is the ultimate hero with the added job of taking care of his nephews after his brother's death. We get to see Rachel and Mason sorting out their feelings for each other while discovering what happened to Stephanie. The mystery is interesting and moves quickly. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. My rating: 5 Stars.
