Wow....I loved this book. It is over 400 pages and it held my interest all the way through. I was really surprised that this book didn't have more ratings. It is wonderful. I am now reading the 2nd Book, Rising Tides, which is also over 400 pages. I am half way through and LOVING IT.

An elderly white woman wants to tell her story to a black journalist in New Orleans during the civil rights era. Very good book, hard to put down.

Very intriguing book to read! It draws the reader into the plot really well. If you haven't read Emilie Richards books before, this one is a really good one to start with! :-)

Aurore Gerritsen wishes to set the family record straight about her 77 year history despite the fact that it is likely to shock and dismay many of her family members. The secrets she has lived and kept close for much of her life promise to shock and possibly divide her influential New Orleans family and society in general. The author has mirrored racial attitudes and prejudices that are often painful to read about as well as descriptions of spousal abuse. The book has many twists and turns and when it is finished the reader will want to immediately go to the sequel Rising Tides to get "the rest of the story." As with every Emilie Richards book I have read, I found this one well written, well plotted and never predictable. She always tells a great story.
