A powerful novel of the bond between horse and man. Jack McKenna grows up in Devon just before WWI. His constant companion is a roan mare called Beth. He plans to buy her and get foals from her. The great war begins and Beth is taken for an artillery horse. He now leaves to serve his country and look for his beloved Beth. This books chronicles the terror war for our equine friends. What they and the soldiers they served went thru. It will pull at the heartstrings of horselovers and also dismay them at times. War is not good for man nor beast.
