Excellent and ironic book... as relevant today as during the author's day. Not for those who like a light read - writing style is antique and requires thought.
Classic erotica, unexpurgated. No wear on binding.
I enjoyed how well this book was written and I thought it was a great (tongue-in-cheek?) commentary on the society of the time (although a bit repetitious). Poor Justine. I definitely see why this was labeled erotica & found shocking. I found it pretty shocking myself but I think it's a great book.
I read this book over 40 years ago. The thing I remember most about it was the introduction by Woodward. Surprisingly, DeSade was a nobleman leader in the French Revolution and a humanitarian! He was a philosopher and a prolific author whose strange works as well as his lifestyle literally describes "Sadism".
