Folks, this is as good as it gets for romance books. Royce is the manliest of men and Jennifer gets through him and he her. It is the most romantic book I have ever read. I think the best thing about this book is there is so much interaction between the two, you laugh, cry and don't even want to break to go to the bathroom. I read in 2 days!!!!! I just finished this book as a 3rd book of the Westmorelands and I don't think Judith McNaught could make me feel more in another book!

I was thoroughly impressed with this novel, I have to say! It was an exciting, surprising story with more twists and turns in it than a mountain road. My first, McNnaught novel, I was delighted by her rich and real characters and enthralled by their miscommunications. A touching romance with real issues played out amidst feuding Scots and Brits with swords, skirmishes and betrayals. I'm glad a took a chance on this novel. I loved it!

I was unable to finish even half this book. Royce, the hero, manipulates Jennifer, the heroine, into becoming his mistress. The story line continues with Royce believing Jennifer has betrayed him...the hero and heroine continue to misunderstand one another. Ugh, frustrating.

Really?! This author really needs to get her facts straight. 1820's England, and the elite are dining on... fresh lobster?? um NOOOO!!! Lobster was not considered a delicacy then. Lobster was considered a scavenger, a bottom feeder, unfit to eat... thus only fed to slaves here in America. It was not considered as "real food" until the slaves started asking for more. And as much as Americans did not like the English then, they DID copy them in everything fashionable, including food.
And more little things, like "she went downstairs at 5 minutes past 11, (but) the clock gonged 11 as they went out the door. huh? so the 5 minutes in the drawing room went backwards?
And... she drags the simplest little scene out for too many pages!!

Another Scots heroine/English hero historical romance book . . . a really good read and lots of action and intrigue, as well.

I didn't think I would ever love a historical romance as much as I loved this one. Judith McNaught's strongest point is writing characters you truly invest in, characters you truly fall in love with. In this book, Jennifer Merrick and Royce Westmoreland are no exceptions. This is the story of the fiery Scottish beauty and her handsome but fearful captor. After spending a night together, they're forced into marriage by their kings. What started as simply a marriage meant to appease the Catholic church and both countries citizens ended up turning into much more for these two characters.

A cute book set in 15th century Scottland. Heroine is a 17 year old Scotts-woman who has wound up captive of the hero, an Englishman who is her clan's greatest enemy. A lot happens in this story and it was certainly entertaining but a bit shallow. I found myself skimming a lot, the story's formula was predictable and while the characters had a lot of charm, I didn't fall in love with anyone. There is a bit of a spanking moment if you like that kind of thing, it wasn't the best, but there it was.

She was a spirited highborn Scottish beauty. He was a legendary English knight they called "The Black Wolf." As 15th-century Scottish clansmen defended their lands and honor from fierce British invaders, these two sworn enemies became secret lovers.

I think Judith McNaught is one of the best writers of historical romance. The characters are believable and altough flawed still make you care what happens.
