One thing that Adolf Hitler was never fond of was his family. He had a sister who was mentally handicapped and a step-brother, Alois, who was a bigamist. His bigamist brother had a son, William Patrick, who was born in England to Alois Irish born wife.

In the early 1920s, Hitler came to Liverpool to visit Alois, his wife, Brigid, and his nephew, William Patrick. According to Brigid, Adolf was lazy and did nothing to attempt to get a job or be useful around the house. After a few months, she insisted he needed to leave.

Brigid and William both had difficulty obtaining and holding jobs once Hitler rose to power in Germany, so William went to Germany to see if his uncle could help him get a job. William was able to get a couple very low paying jobs that didnt pay enough for him to live on and have money to send to his mother in England. Adolf would never give him a better job saying he needed to earn his position but Hitler ensured that he couldnt get a better job.

Eventually, Brigid and William, immigrated to the United States where William went on the lecture circuit telling stories about his Uncle, Adolf Hitler.

When the US entered the war, William fought to join the US armed forces and after much investigation was allowed to join the Navy. He served with honor on the Pacific front.

After the war, he seems to have disappeared. But, rumors that he survived and had children abound.

Mr. Gardner search to find William and his family and claims to have found the family, but agreed to not share the families new name. William and his wife had four sons one of whom died young in a car accident. Supposedly, the four sons had made a pact to never have children so that the Hitler name and genes would end with them.

Im not sure that the author did find the brothers or that there was any sort of pact -- which the author does admit the brothers never confirmed. None of the brothers ever really talked with him, other than to ask him to leave them alone.
