Forty years before Freaky Friday, English humorist P.G. Wodehouse spins this hilarious tale of swapped bodies. Set in 1930s Hollywood, 27-year-old Reggie, third Earl of Havershot, and 12-year-old Joey Cooley, a child star with golden curls, end up switching bodies after both go under laughing gas at the dentist. And just like that "gorilla faced" ex-boxer Reggie becomes the Little Lord Fauntleroy-esque "idol of American motherhood".

Hilarity ensues as each discovers the troubles plaguing the other- Reggie is saddled with a chronically soused cousin, Joey is under a five year contract with a tyrranical producer who micromanages his life and forbids him to eat donuts. While Joey revels in his new adult freedom, Reggie stumbles from obstacle to obstacle as he tries to reclaim his life. From a botched kidnapping, to newly-adult Joey's revenge on his exploiters, to newly-pint-sized Reggie's amour for starlet April June, Laughing Gas is a delightful romp through Wodehouse's idyllic universe.
